Graduation

Makayla’s session was more than just a celebration of graduating nursing school—it was a celebration of where she’s been and the exciting road ahead.

We met on a warm, overcast evening in early May, starting her session at the beautiful arboretum and ending where so much of her story has already unfolded—on the Carle hospital campus. For the last few years, Makayla has worked as an ER nurse at Carle while finishing up her studies at Parkland College. It was only fitting to capture a few quiet moments outside the place where she’s made such an impact.

With her scrubs, white coat, and the kind of calm strength only nurses seem to carry, Makayla was glowing. And in between photos, she told me about her next chapter—moving to Chicago with her fiancé and continuing her ER work in a whole new city.

Makayla, you’ve already accomplished so much, and I know this is just the beginning. Wishing you all the best as you take your compassion, drive, and heart up north. Chicago is lucky to have you!
