The photos from your wedding day will not only be the ones you look back on, but also the ones your kids see and possibly even show to their children. Here are a few things you can do as a bride to help take those timeless photos to the next level (bonus: your photographer will love you for it❤️)
Real Flowers: The number one thing I tell my brides is to always, always, always go with real flowers. Is it more expensive? Absolutely. But they’re worth shifting other things around in the wedding budget to make room for. Real flowers bring extra life to a photo, they soften a photo, and they are an easy way to add a pop of color. They photograph better than artificial flowers and add a touch of elegance. This is the #1 way to take your photos next level without having to do anything else.
A Veil: Much like real flowers, a veil adds a touch of softness and elegance to the photos. Your photographer can play with it and swoop it into the camera, adding a soft, creamy foreground to your bridal and couples portraits. Plus, if you’re self conscious about arms but want to wear a strapless dress, a veil can visually cut the size of your arms in half. The key is to get your veil the right length — at a minimum, you want it to hit just below your rear. Longer is better, but you don’t want it to be much shorter than that in order to give your photographer full creative control on using it in your images.
Color Coordination: picking colors for your bridal party that compliment each other is another simple way to guarantee stunning photos. For example, if you love green and know that you want your bridesmaid dresses to be a shade of green, that green is going to look so much better in pictures next to the groomsmen if the guys are wearing a color like tan instead of a dark gray.
Outfit colors can also quite literally change the style of your photographer’s work. For example- if a bride hires a photographer who specializes in light, airy, pastel work but the bride chooses a dark color palette, like deep red and black, there is no way the photos will turn out light and airy. The photographer can do a few things in post to try to help, like soften the blacks and lighten the shadows, but at the end of the day, adding something dark into the mix when you’ve hired a light and airy photographer isn’t going to give light and airy photos.
If you want red and black as your colors, that’s great- but the key then is to select a photographer with a style that can handle really bold, strong colors like that to avoid disappointment in the style of your final images.
