3 Fun Reception Ideas

Wedding Tips

Ahh the Reception. The part of the day your guests are really there for, if we’re being honest! 🤣

Here are a couple things I’ve seen at weddings that are some fun ideas that will keep your guests entertained and partying with you all night long! (Bonus: they’ll also give you some amazing photo ops 😍)

A sweet moment:

Traditionally, fathers get a lot of attention during the reception. Everyone knows to expect the “father/daughter dance,” But Mom plays a huge role in the day and your life too, and lately I’ve seen more brides carve out a few special mama/daughter moments in the reception. Two sweet ideas: don’t tell mom, but get with the DJ and let him/her know you want to do a mother daughter dance as well. Surprise mom with it at the reception- she’ll find out when the DJ calls her up! Another cute thing I’ve seen is the bride handing off her bouquet to her mom instead of doing the traditional bouquet toss. This also works best when it’s a surprise to mom (just make sure to keep the DJ in on it!)

Photo App Fun:

This trend is all over Tiktok, so you’ve probably seen it by now! There are tons of apps out there where you can have your guests download the app, scan a QR code upon arrival, and then guests get to take pictures on their phones during the wedding day using the app. At the end of the day, the images all upload to a shared site that the bride and groom have access to. This is a fun way to get even more photos AND from the unique perspective of your guests.

Snowball:

Get with your DJ for all the fun dance activities! They know what to do to get the crowd going. One that I’ve seen done, but not done often, is the “snowball.” This is where the DJ typically has the couple and the bridal party come to the dance floor. They dance for a few seconds, then the DJ tells them to start the snowball– each member of the bridal party runs out to the crowd and grabs someone to bring back to the dance floor. They all dance for a few seconds, then the process repeats- everyone on the dance floor runs out to the crowd and grabs a partner. The cycle continues until almost everyone is on that dance floor! Some people love it, some people hate it and try to avoid it, but either way….laughs are guaranteed and it gives the photographer a couple minutes to get you some reception shots of a very crowded dance floor 😏

Happy Planning!
